POPPY TRUST FUND BURSSARIES

Educational bursaries are available from the Branch Poppy Trust Fund to the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Veterans who need financial assistance to pursue a post-secondary education (college, technical school, university).

Students may apply each year they attend a post-secondary institution.  The bursaries are provided from the Branch Poppy Funds, which are held "in trust" and their dispersal's are strictly controlled and must meet the requirements set out in the Legion Poppy Manual.

To apply please email the branch at rclbranch281@gmail.com and provide the following information:

  • Name of student requesting the bursary.
  • Name of the secondary school.
  • Proof of school registration
  • Name, rank and service number of the Veteran you are applying under.

A means test is required; the form will be provided once the Branch has been contacted.

Bursary approval steps:

  • Once all required information for the bursary request is received, the Branch Poppy Chair presents the bursary request to the general membership at a Branch General Meeting (held the 4th Wednesday of January, March, May, June, September, and November) for approval.
  • Assuming its' approval, the Branch completes a Poppy Fund Disbursement Form and submits it and a copy of the General Meeting Minutes approving the request, to the AB-NWT Command (provincial headquarters) for approval.
  • AB-NWT Command must approve the request before the bursary can be provided.

Please note that all Legion members are volunteers so these activities take place in the members' spare time.
